What we do
  • provide hearing healthcare services for Yukoners from birth to old age, with a priority emphasis on early detection and intervention for children;
  • offer assessments, hearing aid dispensing, public education and in-services, while based in Whitehorse with some travel to Yukon’s regional communities; and
  • work closely with physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary team to diagnose and make recommendations for treatment and follow-up of clients with hearing disorders.
Job description
  • provide diagnostic audiological assessment of clients to determine the type, severity and etiology of any existing hearing loss. Reporting audiological test results, interpretation and recommendations to physicians and/or otolaryngologists for final medical diagnosis, treatment, and medical clearance for hearing aid fitting when necessary;
  • interpret diagnostic test results, analyze client symptoms to make a preliminary diagnosis and assess the possible etiology of the hearing impairment;
  • make recommendations regarding case management;
  • counsel the client and family regarding the type, severity and cause of hearing loss, its impact on the client, recommendations for action, especially regarding the acquisition of hearing aids or modifications to the home or work environment, and communication strategies needed to compensate for the hearing loss, and motivate client for follow through with recommendations;
  • contribute to the hearing health team; and
  • travel within the territory to Watson Lake and Dawson. The average number of trips annually is 2, and the average length per trip can be up to 1 week.

Job requirements
  • master’s Degree in Audiology from a Canadian university, or an equivalent degree from a recognized international program, per ACSLPA criteria;
  • current ACSLPA registration, or eligibility to register;
  • recent experience in conducting full pediatric diagnostic audiometric assessments and/or pediatric hearing aid fittings;
  • recent experience conducting diagnostic audiometric assessments and interpretation;
  • experience with specialized testing, such as auditory brainstem response testing, tinnitus measurement and management, vestibular assessments, and central auditory screening will be considered an asset;
  • TB screening;
  • vulnerable Sector RCMP security clearance; and
  • valid Yukon Driver’s license.
